Significant life

In order to lead a significant life one must be happy with themselves and their accomplishments by striving to be the best they can be. They positively impact the lives of people around them.

My grandpa Uhing lead a significant life. Even though he worked everyday at his seemingly never ending list of things to do, he always made time for his family. He could make anybody smile, and just being around him made my day better.

Significant Life

In order to lead a significant life a person must have happiness and also feel satisfaction in their life.

I think Tony Dungy has lead a significant life. Not only did he become the first african american coach to win a Super Bowl, he also overcame struggles throughout his life. One of them being the death of his son. This made him one of the most respected leaders the NFL has ever seen. It never seemed like he wanted to be the center of attention. He was a soft-spoken coach, and motivated his players without yelling at them. This earned the respect of his palyers and was why he was one of teh most inspirational leaders.

A Significant Life

To lead a meaningful life is to be happy. It is more than making money or fame though. It's about impacting peoples lives and being open enough to have people impact yours.

I know it sounds cliche but I think both my parents have lead significantly. They're not rich or doctors and not all of their dreams will ever come true, but they give and they give. They take the punches with the tide and hold it all together as great as they do. My biggest worries are research papers and scholarship applications, but my father was facing fatherhood when he was my age. So instead of being a coward, he decided to raise this lovely human being that is my brother and in turn learn from him. My mom is the most determined person I know. Through the blood, mud, and grit she's never once thrown in the towel and taught us never give up something we feel passionate about or on the people we love.

Meaningful

For me leading a significant meaningful life is doing what makes one happy. They must do what makes them happy and meaningful for themselves and not what others think is meaningful. It is a personal definition.

My Grandma Marlene

Leading a significant life

The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. How you live your life is different from everyone else that is why your meaning of life is different than others. Also, have happiness, and live without regrets. But living without regrets means don't dwell on the past it does not mean live without mistakes.

My parents are a good example of leading a significant life. They have lived there life to the fulliest. They are very happy people and enjoy every moment they have with my brothers and I or themselves. They live without dwelling on the past. They move on and learn from there mistakes. They know that making mistakes is a good thing because they always learn from them and make the best of the situation.

Success? Say what?

I believe leading a successful and meaningful life is to live freely and happily with the choices one has made.-Opinion

A successful life is all up to the owner of the life. It is based on their outlook and perspective. A middle-wage job with no family might seem pretty good to a poor man. However, it may not seem very successful to the rich man. If you want to be successful, then try to be, and you will.

I believe my parents have lived successful lives. After failing the first time, they managed to perfectly raise a young boy whom is now 18 years of age. They are failing with their next two kids, but they're getting the hang of it again.

Leading a significant life

Definition for leading a significant life: Work hard to achieve what YOU believe is the right thing in life.

Definition for leading a significant life: Make goals to achieve and once those goals are completed make new ones. Make your actions speak louder there than your words. Surround yourself with people that you enjoy being around

I think that Steve Jobs led a significant life. He helped the world with his invention and even after he passed away Apple still continues to grow.

How to Lead a Significant Life

Definition for leading a meaningful life: surrounding yourself with the ones you love and making every moment count.

Definition to leading a significant life: working hard for the path you want to follow in the future. Successfully achieving your goals. Once there accomplished, set new goals. Follow your dreams and desires. Do what makes you happy.

Example: I believe that Michael J Fox has lead a significant life, because even though he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He was determined to help save lives that’s why he created the Michael J Fox Foundation which has raised millions of dollars for Parkinson's research.

In my opinion, in order to lead a significant life one must first find out where they want to go in life. This can be summed up as a general life goal or destination. But to be significant, the goal or destination does not necessarily have to be reached. However, the effort and determination that is required must be present at all times.

I believe that President Theodore Roosevelt led a significant life. He saw a need for change and development during his presidential years and he worked towards this goal. He was a very innovative person and used his passion for life to help reshape America.

Leading a Significant Life

I believe that leading a significant life can be very difficult. I believe that it is not just getting past life's many obstacles, but going above and beyond and doing it with a good attitude. I believe that to lead a significant life, you have to make an impact and change lives in a positive way. You have to inspire others to be everything that THEY can be, regardless of the obstacles they face.

I believe Ray Charles lead a very meaningful life. Not only did he come from absolute poverty, but he also became blind at a very young age. However, Ray overcame his blindness and learned to play the piano, very well obviously. He then went on to become one of the greatest musicians who ever lived. He inspired others to overcome their own handicaps and set their minds on squeezing every last drop they could out of life.

How to Lead a Significant Life

My Definition
Living a meaningful life means making the most of every moment we are given.  A significant life has purpose, direction, and realistic goals - all of which are achieved through perseverance.  If one is living a significant life, they are seeking to better the society they live in while still enjoying everything that the world has to offer.

Example
I believe that Abraham Lincoln led a very significant life. He was born into a poor family, and even at an early age, nothing was ever handed to him.  Abraham Lincoln worked hard for all of the successes that came his way.  Although he was a travelling, poorly-educated attorney, he had monumental aspirations in life. He will always be known as one of the best presidents of the United States and as the man who gave freedom to countless African American people.  Even though his life was cut short, his legacy lives on as a hero in our society.

Leading a significant life

Living a significant life isn’t necessarily easy. It’s not always about how much fun we have or how much we enjoy what we’re doing, but is instead about how we have expanded and progressed, and what we have gained or learned.
It’s all about what you were able to learn and how you grew as a person. If you have a passionate vision, pursue this vision with true tenacity, and always look for significant moments, what once was boring and meaningless starts to be full of life and exuberance.

Leading a Significant Life

To lead a significant life, one must do something they are passionate about. They should not just settle for anything, and pursue their dreams. One’s life must have meaning to them in some way or another. They should not just sit around and do nothing, because they are doing nothing significant with their lives. One may choose to live a meaningful and significant life. It is up to each individual how they want their lives to be.

I believe that Oprah has lead a significant life. She was born into poverty to a single teenage mother who raised her in the inner city. She began her dream with starting a job at the local radio. She took off from there. She let no one person stand in her way. To some people, she is considered the most influential woman in the world. She has helped so many people in her lifetime, and she has definitely lead a significant and meaningful life.

Significance in life

A person leads a significant life when they change the lives of others for the better.  Whether it is from a kind word or a good deed to telling someone what they need to hear not what they want to hear.  Leading a significant life means that you could look back at everything that you have done and be able to say if i where never born the world would be worse than it is right now.
Mother Teresa led a significant life by doing good deeds and showing others how to do good deeds.  She helped millions and showed others how to do it.  The world would have been a much darker place without her presence.

Leading a Significant Life

“If I live the life I’m given, I won’t be scared to die.”  This quote from The Avett Brothers song “The Once and Future Carpenter” makes me think of what it means to live a significant life.  To me, living a significant life means living in the moment, being fully present, and making an impression on the people you love.  To live a significant life, you don’t need to be famous or rich or powerful, you just need to be the best person you can be.

I feel like I have been blessed to live around several people who have lived the life they were given.  One of them is my grandpa, Burnell Johnson.  It has been almost a year since he passed away, but when I think of my grandpa, I think of a man who loved his life and loved the people in it.  Seldom could you spend any time with my grandpa without feeling better.  His quick wit and his goofy mannerisms always made us laugh.  His positive outlook on life always made us think better of ourselves and the future.  Most importantly, the way I felt when I was with my grandpa was best expressed in one word:  loved.  He lived a simple life in a small town in North Dakota, but he lived a happy life, set a great moral example, spent a lot of time doing the things he loved to do, and became a friend to those he met along the way.  He truly lived the life he was given.

My grandpa may not have made a difference for millions of people, but he was significant to his friends and his family.  He made a difference to me not just in the way he made me feel or how he made me laugh but how he lived his life.  If I can live a life of purpose and goodness like Grandpa Johnson did, I will feel like I truly am living the life I’ve been given.  It would be an honor to someday be compared to my grandpa.

Leading a significant life

Michaela's Definition: Leading a significant life means that you are satisfied with what you have done. You have also impacted someone elses life, hopefully for the better.
A person who I believe that has lead a very significant life is Martin Luther King Jr. I believe this because not only did he change many peoples lives but he also greatly altered history. He was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in and change the world.

Leadership

A leader is someone who doesnt settle for what some call "good enough". A good leader will strive to be the best he can be and lead the people around him to do the same. A good leader is someone who takes the blame when something goes wrong and gives the credit to the others when things go right.

My example of a good leader is Marin Luther King Jr.

A leader leads by example not by Force. ~Sun Tzu

A leader has the vision and conviction that a dream can be achieved. He inspires the power and energy to get it done. ~Ralph Nader

"Leadership is the capacity to transform vision into reality."
 - Warren G. Bennis

"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower."
 - Steve Jobs

Leadership oftentimes goes undetected. Some people may not realize other people that are good leaders, and sometimes good leaders do not recognize that they are leading. However, everybody can recognize the traits that each leader possesses that make them a great person. I believe that a good leader is a person that always seeks to find the greater cause in all situations; one who makes the best of each situation and strives to help others.

I believe that Winston Churchill is a great leader. He was faced with the task to completely turn his country around in World War II. He never once mentioned surrendering because it was completely out of the question. The result? He helped others and himself to stay determined when the going got tough which helped change the course of the war.

"You cannot be a leader, and ask other people to follow you, unless you know how to follow, too."
— Sam Rayburn

"The older I get the less I listen to what people say and the more I look at what they do."
— Andrew Carnegie

All leaders start out as followers. True leaders speak through their actions and not their words. Leaders have the determination to accomplish just about anything.

I think that George Washington is a great example of a leader. He was a strong, loyal, and dedicated man. He fought for what he believed in and did not back down

I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed.
~Michael Jordan

Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.
 ~Dale Carnegie

Success is learning from your mistakes and the ability to accomplish ones goals. Some may achieve success through fame and fortune, others will achieve success by breaking their goals. I think that success is defined differently from person to person.

The leader has to be practical and a realist, yet must talk the language of the visionary and the idealist.
~Eric Hoffer

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."
-- John Quincy Adams

To be a leader is something special. You do have to be practical and realistic, this way you don't lead others into a bad situation or set those, who follow your lead, up for failure. It's also about being pacient and inspiring the people around. Even if one day that won't need you, you've helped them to grow and hopeful become a leader of their own.

It may sound silly but I think all of us our leaders in our own way. Some may be more noticeable, others not so much. But we all are.

Success

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure. Bill Cosby

Being successful is being happy with yourself and your life. Not trying to change things for the worse, but changing for the better and not letting people get the best of you. If you are truely happy, you are successful. Never give up.

"Don't let the fear of striking out, keep you from playing the game."- A Cinderella Story

Leadership

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the
rights of the poor and needy."
Proverbs 31: 8-9

“The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”
―   Ronald Reagan

A leader is one who is willing to step up when others won't and make a change that others do not like. One who is willing to change others for the good with out them realizing it. A leader can take a stand and not care what other people think, to do whats right.

Leadership

"Effective leadership is not about making speeches or being liked; leadershipis defined by results not attributes." -Peter Drucker

"Do not follow where the pay may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." - Harold R. McAlindon

Leadership is the willingness to step up and point the way for others to be successful
Abraham Lincoln was a good leader. He kept people together and he's the reason why the nation didn't break into smaller parts. He was also able to recognize errors, learn from them, and than move on from there.

Leadership

Being a leader to me means that you have to have dedication to what you are doing and be able to lead a group of people in the right path. You have to be strong and know what is best for your followers. A good leader doesn't lead their people into a bad situation if they can help it. A leader should stand up for what they believe in. A leader is someone who steps up to take on a challenge and lead people in the right direction. This definition describes a famous leader, Martin Luther King Jr. He led people in the Civil Rights Movement because he was passionate about it.
"A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus but a molder of consensus."
Martin Luther King Jr.

"A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better."
Jim Rohn

Mother Teresa

What defines a leader? A leader is someone who will take charge when no one else will step up. They will expose their character when times are tough and reach out to people who struggle.

Mother Teresa once said, "If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one." This is a great example of a leader. Why? A leader would do their very best to care for as many people as possible, and though she couldn't feed 100 people, she would do her best to find just one. She truly is a great leader. She struggled through many hardships and still found ways to help others before herself. She is a great example to live and learn by.

A non-traditional leader

Many times in literature and every day life a leader is described by his traits and what he resembles. These traits are often noble, couragous, fearless, strong, traits that a knight in shinig armor would have. But what about the everyday leader that is almost always overseen? True he may not save civilization from a terrifying monster or prevent a major war, but he does help people for the better without all the fame and glory.

A leader in my own definition is a person who people can rely on to show them the way in times of trouble, devistation or need. A leader will help others not for his own peace but for everyone else.

Arnold W. Glosgow once said, "A good leader takes a little more than his share of the blame, and less than his share of the credit."

Leadership

Leadership- is having the ability to step up and show others the way to be sucessful

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." John Quincy Adams
My father is a great leader. He has always showed me the way in everyday life and in sports. He has always shown me the right way to do things and has taught me to do things right not just good enough. He has never taken credit for the stuff he does for others he just does it because its the right thing to do. He has taught me that you do not need the acknowledgement for doing what you did. You just do whats right and you do not do it for the fame.

Leadership

Loyalty

Encouragement

Authenticity
Discipline
Energetic
Righteous
Support
Humility
Integrity
Patient

All these words form leadership.

A leader is someone who sacrifices time and credit, so others can achieve greatness. A leader is someone who is not just responsible for making good decisions but being responsible for the bad as well. I believe that any person who has become a great leader has had to taste the bitterness of a loss first.

I think Michael Jordan is a great example of leadership. Michael Jordan is considered the best basketball player that ever lived. His attitude on and off the court has made him a great leader. Some characteristics that make Michael Jordan a great leader are; teamwork, work ethic, Demeanor, enthusiasm, and humility. Every time Michael Jordan expresses these characteristics., he sacrifices time and credit. So others can achieve greatness.

"If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it."  - Michael Jordan

"I've always believed that if you put in the work, the results will come." - Michael Jordan

How I Define Leadership

A good leader earns the respect of those whose lives they influence.  A true leader does not point the way to others, but shows the way through being an example.  A leader is not afraid of the hard work that accompanies success.  Leaders have integrity, are trustworthy, and will learn from their mistakes as well as the mistakes of others.  Good leaders will try to do what is right, no matter who is or is not watching.  Most importantly, a leader will empower others to set their goals high and to reach these goals.

A well-known leader is George Washington.  He not only provided the foundation for our great country, but also lived up to his words.  He was not afraid to fight in the front lines of battle during the Revolutionary War, and by doing this he earned the respect of the people.  He did not take this respect for granted, but used it to unite the people to form the strongest government and strongest nation in the world today.  He inspired millions of Americans to dream bigger and accomplish more.

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader." - John Quincy Adams

"It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership." - Nelson Mandela

Leadership

A leader is someone who is strong, passionate, empowering, and supportive. They try to bring out and unleash the potential and energy in other people so they can reach their goals. A leader is a person who tries to make the "team" succeed by helping them get to a better place.

"The task of leadership is not to put greatness into people, but to elicit it, for the greatness is there already."

"Leaders never say "I." They don't think "I." They think "we"; they think "team." They understand their job to be is to make the team function. They accept responsibility and don't sidestep it, but "we" gets the credit... This is what creates trust, what enables you to get the task done."

"He that would be a leader must also be a bridge"

Gandhi...a true servant leader

When I think about how I define leadership, I think of building honest, open relationships, moving forward toward a vision based on excellence, recognizing the importance of each individual, holding myself accountable to high ethical and moral standards, working hard, and showing dedication and perseverence.  Those are qualities I think a good leader should have.

Gandhi is someone I believe fits those criteria.  Whether it was his lifelong commitment to nonviolence, his pursuit of independence for India from British rule, or the quest to not allow a person to be labeled "untouchable," Gandhi lived his values every day.  He selfelessly served others in a pursuit for a higher standard.  That is leadership.  He did not ask anything of anybody that he would not do himself.  When asking others to give up the practice of discrimination against the untouchables, he lived among them.  When protesting unjust laws, he willingly went to jail.  His life was about living his word.  And he would not allow the actions of others to change his morals or values or how he treated others.  He lived leadership, he did not just practice it.

Some quotes from Gandhi that really fit my definition of leadership are:

"Be the change you wish to see in the world."

"My life is its own message."

"An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind."

Leadership

"If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader."John Quincy Adams

A leader is someone who is willing to sacrifice many things in order to inspire someone. A leader will go out of their way to help another person. A leader will never leave anyone behind.

I think that Nelson Mandela is a great example of a leader because he gave up most of his life in prison for his people. He fought for what was right and for the rights of his people.

Leadership

My bad.

Our group defined leadership as putting an effort into the success of others.  People that inspire others to be greater than they truly are.

"Control is not leadership; management is not leadership; leadership is leadership. If you seek to lead, invest at least 50% of your time in leading yourself—your own purpose, ethics, principles, motivation, conduct. Invest at least 20% leading those with authority over you and 15% leading your peers."
— Dee Hock

"The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been."
— Henry Kissinger

Leadership

A leader is someone who refuses to settle, has good communication skills, and someone who motivates other people. They show support and respect to others.

My example of a good leader is Martin Luther King Jr. Some of his qualities that he showed as a leader consisted of having confidence and being determined.

"A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be."
-Rosalynn Carter

"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."
-Martin Luther King Jr.

Leadership

Leadership doesn't necessarily require bravery or physical strength, but rather selflessness and mental strength. It is using the talents and abilities that you've developed to help others develop their own. It shouldn't matter if you receive the credit or glory. All that should matter is that you've helped others reach success.

"Educationists should build the capacities of the spirit of inquiry, creativity, entrepreneurial and moral leadership among students and become their role model. "
- Abdul Kalam

"Good leadership consists of showing average people how to do the work of superior people. "
- John D. Rockefeller

"The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.
- Harvey S. Firestone

Success...

Success can start when you wake up in the morning to when you fall asleep. If you worked your hardest, loved to your fullest, and made each and every minute count, you succeeded that day. I don’t believe that people have to find success in life; I believe it will find them. When I am doing what I love to do, I am surrounded by the people that I love, and I have led a life to be proud of, success will just come naturally.

"The man who has the largest capacity for work and thought is the man who is bound to succeed." - Henry Ford

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome." - Booker T. Washington

Success

Happiness is a key factor in being successful. Surrounding yourself with positive and care free people will help you on journey to success. By surrounding myself with people who have a positive and care free attitude, this is how I will achieve success.

"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts."
                                                                                                                                            -Winston Churchill

Success

Success is living life to the fulliest, and making the best of any situation. Success is being able each your short term and long term goals by putting your whole heart into it, fufilling your potential, living life to the fulliest, having a purpose, and having high positive standards for yourself. Being sucessful is accepting life as it is and making the most of it. Success is not always about what you get or what you think you should get its what you did and the impact that it had on the people around you. Getting the most out of your expeirences in life is what makes you successful. Success does not always come with high praise, success can be things that no one notices but they mean so much to you.

"Things work out best for those who make the best of how things work out"-John Wooden

"There is only one success- to be able to spend your life in your own way"- Christopher Morley

Success?

Well, what is success? Success could be a lot of things. Success could be happiness, money, power, a good attitude, etc. Success to me is waking up each morning with something to look forward to. It is not just "going through the motions" each day but rather realizing the notions of life. Sure, a wife who loves you and makes sandwiches for you day in and day out would be nice, but I don't wake up in the morning looking forward to just a sandwich. I look forward to the journey through the day to get to that sandwich.

Kobe Bryant said, "I don't want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant." He looked forward to being who he was and still is today, and that sounds like success to me.

My Success

For a person to find success in life, one will have to find their own way of achieving it. Success for me is being happy, honest, involved and stable. Being happy with myself and others around me is key. The happiness of knowing that I am the best person I can be by giving my best efforts is important. Once my major goals in life have been reached I will know I have succeeded.

Success is what you make it, not what others believe it should be.

My Definition of Success

Success means being happy with what you are doing. You don't have to have loads of cash or fancy things if you are happy with the way your life is going then you being successful. Take your failures in life and make them push you even harder.

"Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm" Winston Churchill

s-u-c-c-e-s-s thats the way you spell success

Everybody has their own way of how they view success. My future of success will consist of being able to recognize a problem and take it head-on, help others through tough times as they will help me, learn and understand the viewpoints of others, and appreciate every day, for it is another chance to change things. Success in life is to make it through each journey, problem, experience, or life changing situation and being able to say, "I regret nothing."

" I've failed over and over and over again in my life and that is why I succeed." -Michael Jordan

" Always bear in mind that your own resoulution to succeed is more important than any other."
                                                                                                                                                  -Abraham Lincoln

My Definition of Success

Success is wanting to always better yourself and being able to sacrifice for a greater purpose even though you know you might not succeed every time, but you do it anyway. If you are happy with where you are at in life, what you have and the effort you put into everything, then you are successful.

"Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs even though checkered by failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt

Success

Success is doing what you believe in and being happy about it. It's waking up every morning and not regretting the previous day. It's finding what you love to do and doing it, without worrying about money. Success cannot be rushed. You can work hard for it, but patience is crucial. Don't do your best to be successful. Do your best to do your best, and you will have success.

" What's money? A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do." - Bob Dylan

Success

Success is being happy with everything you have in your life and striving to achieve the things you want to accomplish. Don't let the opinion of others stop you from getting where you want to be.

“Let no feeling of discouragement prey upon you, and in the end you are sure to succeed.”  Abraham Lincoln

Defining Success

My Definition of Success: Success is being able to end each day knowing that you have accomplished something great and worked the hardest you can to make the most of every opportunity.  Success is being happy with who you are and your place in life, and knowing how to inspire this same attitude in others.

My Success Quote: Thomas Edison said, "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."

What success means to me

To me success is striving for something important and knowing that you put your best effort into it. To know that you are success full is to feel happy with what you have accomplished in your life.

My favorite quote about success is:
"Our greatest glory is not is never failing, but it is rising up every time we fail"-Ralph Waldo Emerson

My Definition of Success

Success is the feeling you get when you have finished something well that you have previously failed at. You have a feeling of happiness and pride that you have succeeded in overcoming an obstacle.

"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure." - Bill Cosby
Success means achieving the things that you want to do in life. It is growing and improving to become better each day, and to never lose enthusiasm if you fail at something.

"Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming." - John Wooden
People are successful when they are happy with their life. Dreamers are happy because they truly believe that things can only get better, and they keep a work ethic to make it happen.

"All successful people men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what their future could be, ideal in every respect and then they work everyday toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose." -Brian Tracy
For myself, I will know I'm successful when I have a complete feeling of inner peace and other people's opinions are less important to me. If at the end of the day I can go home and feel happy and know I've stayed true to myself I will be successful.

"Self acceptance leads to success, not the other way around."

My definition of success

Success means living life with a greater purpose.  If you are successful, you have done all you can, met challenges head on, and can walk away from a failure with the same pride you have walking away from a great victory.  Living with greater purpose leads to greater happiness.

One of my favorite quotes that relates to success is:
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who are alive.” – Howard Thurman

Welcome to the HPS English IV blog!

Welcome to the HPS English IV blog!  A goal of this course is for students to be critical members of the online world.   To do this, the class will create a blog.  The blog is intended to be a forum to not only share their thoughts about issues brought up in class, but also to reflect on their own views about society and life in general as they prepare to enter college.  Students will be expected to be regular contributors to the blog.  Students will also subscribe to at least one online blog.  This blog can fit into one of four categories:  a career they are interested in, college readiness, a social issue that is important to them, or a news blog.  Throughout the year, they will journal about the blog and evaluate it based on its possible biases and strengths and weaknesses.  School starts August 14!
